texture close-ups

get close — really close. photograph textures you walk past every day and discover the hidden landscapes in bark, fabric, concrete, and skin.

    choose three surfaces you touch or walk past daily — a wall, a piece of clothing, a tree, a pavement.

  2. 2

    photograph each surface from as close as your camera can focus. fill the entire frame with texture.

  3. 3

    annotate: use stamps to mark patterns you notice — repetitions, cracks, gradients, irregularities.

  4. 4

    show your captures to someone without context. ask them to guess what the surfaces are.

  5. 5

    reflect: how does scale change what you see? what looks different up close vs. from a distance?
