paper bridge challenge
build a bridge from a single sheet of paper that spans a 20 cm gap and holds a small weight. fold, score, and test — then photograph each iteration.
materials
- 3 sheets of A4 paper
- ruler
- scissors
- two books of equal height
- small weight (e.g. apple or battery pack)
instructions
- 1
set two books 20 cm apart on a flat surface — this is your gap
- 2
using one sheet of paper (no tape or glue), try to bridge the gap so the paper holds the weight
hint: folding creates strength — accordion folds, tubes, and corrugation all work
- 3
photograph your first attempt before testing it
- 4
place the weight in the centre — does it hold? if not, observe where it fails
- 5
try again with a new sheet — change your folding strategy based on what you learned
- 6
photograph your strongest design from the side so the fold structure is visible
