nature fold book

fold a single sheet of paper into an 8-page mini-book, then fill each page with something observed in nature — a leaf, a colour, a texture, a sound.

materials

  • A4 or A3 paper
  • scissors (one cut only)
  • coloured pencils or pens
  • access to an outdoor space or window

instructions

  1. 1

fold the paper in half lengthways (hotdog fold)

  2. 2

fold in half again widthways, then once more — you should have 8 rectangles when unfolded

  3. 3

cut along the centre fold between the two middle rectangles only

hint: this single cut lets the paper fold into a book shape — search 'one-cut zine' if stuck

  4. 4

fold and push the pages together to form a small book

  5. 5

go outside (or to a window) and dedicate each page to one observation: a leaf shape, a colour swatch, a sound written as words, a texture rubbing, a tiny sketch

  6. 6

add a title and your name to the cover page
